With the outlet of Plantaurel and valley of Lèze, the castle dominates the current village of Pailhès top of its rocky headland. Located at 13 km of the Farmhouse of Azil, at 22 km of Pamiers and 24 km of Foix, Pailhès is with the crossroads of the roads of Foix with Lézat and Pamiers with St Bosoms. This geographical location explains the naturally strategic position of the building.
Pailhès, village of 380 inhabitants consists of a borough and small hamlets distributed on the vast territory of the commune.
The current borough developed as from the XVIIème century close to the axes of communications, on banks of Lèze. The primitive village as for him is located on the hamlet of Barry, in the south of the rock headland crowned by the castle. The vestiges of this medieval village are still visible.
